Jon explained in the topic "level quest":

Each plant has a stat it has an advantage in..

Flowers - Responsiveness, Trees - Girth, Cacti - Potency

You get your level / 20 (rounded) bonus in that stat.

So at my level, (and being a flower), for every stat point of responsiveness I train, I get 1 point bonus.
