But seriously, I could train my speed three times as much as a flower and still not get a hot during a battle.

I am a flower, and i get my butt kicked anyway even with tons of speed. All it takes is a couple hits from someone with a ton of power. Speed doesnt do you any good without other stats to back it up. So i think that its not a bad system, you just have to work to train like everything else.
