I am wondering right now... Why all the bands of this century are either drunk, drugged, smoked or high to produce their music? I mean, it's not like you cannot write a song being... Well, sober... There are few exceptions of that, and mostly they are loved by many, but also hated by even more... Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if... Well... What do you think?

Does Band Hero count? If so, I'm in a band and I don't get wasted all the time...

Typing this, I realize how sad that previous statement was.

Lol, I don't call getting drugged, drunk, and arrested a style... It is more like... Uh... Idiocy...

It's hardly just this century. Drugs have been at the basis of music and the arts in general for a long long time. The Beatles and The Rolling Stones were notorious (and self confessed) druggies, the 60s art movement wouldn't have happened without LSD, rock music and and coke/heroin practically go hand in hand (cf Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, David Bowie, Kurt Cobain etc, etc)
Further back than this there is much speculation that Mozart took some form of drugs and he certainly drank heavily. Various (esp French) artists were addicted to/influenced by absinthe - Vincent van Gogh, Henri Toulouse Lautrec, Verlaine, Rimbaud, Baudelaire, Oscar Wilde, Edgar Allen Poe, Picasso,
Hemingway etc.

The bigger question is how much music & art we would have if musicians and artists weren't drug takers.

It's the other way around, how much better art would we have been if they hadn't drugged their potential. It's the madness, the lucidness in their heads which made them use drugs and create great art.

so you think drugs make people creative? than we would have had a lot more great art. Look at all those drug-upped loosers creating rubbish.

Does taking drugs automatically make someone creative? No, and I do not believe that anyone is making that claim.

Can drugs help someone's creative process? Yes. Absolutely. It's not just art, either.

For example, Steve Jobs called his LSD experiences "one of the two or three most important things [he had] done in [his] life."

You're not guaranteed to become a useless stoner watching blaxpoitation films all day, nor are you guaranteed to become a genius artist.

I absolutely cannot respect the claim that anyone who makes a lifestyle choice different from yours - something you have never tried, and thus cannot fully comprehend - is an idiot.

I don't think trying drugs is very smart, thus, I use my own creativity to do whatever I want and wish to do. If drugs might help me? No. I have to think to create, and I think drugs are prejudicial to my health and body. My mind will stay clear, thanks.

I'm not saying taking drugs is smart I'm merely pointing out that lots of people who are considered absolute geniuses were drug users.
Would The Beatles have been better without using LSD and cannabis? Who knows - they would have been different - but we can't tell if they would have been better or worse.

I know, that answer was specifically to Jon... I just know I have enough creativity by my own self, and that would be sober.

I wasn't trying to imply that everyone should do drugs. I just disagree with labeling all drug use as "idiocy."

Hmm... I still think using drugs is idiocy...

Drinking beer, wine and stuff like that (that still are diferent ways of drugs), is okay, everybody does that - even I rarely -, but don't try convincing me smoking some marruana isn't idiot.
