Our previous post:

Greetings, Plant Wars Players!

We need your help! We want you to teach us what it is like to be a Plant Wars player. We would love to hear about your experiences playing games in general and Plant Wars in specific. We want to hear everything you have to say about gaming! If you're interested in participating, please contact us at patternsofplay@gmail.com.

If you're not quite convinced yet, feel free to do a little more investigation into what we are doing at http://patternsofplay.wordpress.com . But here's the short version.

My name is Alicia Dudek and my research partner is Rachel Shadoan. We are students at the University of Dundee, and we are conducting the "Patterns of Play" project to satisfy the final requirement for our Masters in Design Ethnography. I've known Jon for years and we want to help you and him make Plant Wars even better.

If you have any questions we would be thrilled if you would contact us here on the forum or by email at patternsofplay@gmail.com

Thank you,
Alicia and Rachel

P.S. Just so you all know, we can only talk to people who are over 18 due to the restrictions of the University of Dundee.

Some lovely ladies would like to interview you about your gaming habits.

Well how can I say no to that? =D

Your request seems, to me at least, kind of vague... I could write a hundred pages or so just about gaming, so what is it you're after? My gaming history from Tetris to now, how I got started with PW, what I like about it and stuff like that? Some keywords would help out a lot! ;D

I think you'll get those keywords when you mail them you're interested.

We are interested in everything, but of course that is a totally ridiculous scope. So we are looking at the impact gaming has on players lives and what it is in games that makes them good or bad. We are also interested in how gaming principles and mechanisms can be applied to daily life. Overall we would like your ideas on how gaming has touched your life.

We try not to plant ideas or ask leading questions (you know ones that practically have the answers someone wants in the question). We ask open ended questions to give our participants the freedom to answer in the way most comfortable for them and so the story can come out by itself. We want the true opinions and ideas of people. That is why it might seem vague. We have interviewed people with volumes to say about gaming. Most people are quite passionate and have a lot to say about gaming, which is why its a dream group of people for us to work with on this project.
I look forward to your email! Whee!

Well I use games to help kids learn. I run a non-profit organziation called SolgamesUSA Foundation where kids come and play computer games. Each time they come a different part in the computer is broken. They have to find the part and fix it to continue to play games. Over time these kids become very skilled at fixing computers and all the ways they can break. Those that want to do more help me with my charity project. People give me their old computers and these kids rebuild them working again. We give them to other 501(c)3 chairties FREE of charge. Last year we gave away over 90 computers. All from just playing video games. We meet once a month for 3 days of gamming goodness. Yes they bring sleeping bags and food and crash and party for three days of games and fun. I use social games like plant wars to keep them talking to each other during the month. This way they cant wait to come back and play the more intense games during the events.

In my country its forbidden to let kids work for you. I understand you mean well, but still..it feels weird the way you discribe it for now

"Work" implies they're getting paid. It's "non-profit".

Well i have been playing since a child even i buyed "retro consoles or games" just to taste stuff i couldnt because i born later in time, i have to admit i play way to much but i prefer to spend my money on a videogame than into a cd, or into a drunk night on a bar, videogames last longer, on the other way i have to admitt i had videogaming problems sometimes about not going to school just to finish a game or not working out just to doa game (not anymore but i did it) so i know both faces of gaming i guess, and most of players had them maybe.
Ibegan to play Plant Wars because i began playing server games because work and master on school took much of my time to play properly a console or pc game. And now im hooked to it in part because the bank stop people to "farm" you a problem of the mayority server games.

@ Breaker - That is a really amazing concept. I like the real world gaming crossover, and its the first time I have ever heard of anything like this. Its really innovative. We would really enjoy speaking to you some more on this topic. Please get in touch at patternsofplay@gmail.com

For those new to the term farm.
Farm= in gaming concept is to atack a player constantly to obtain benefits like money or fame since the player is inferior on you on status and is easy for the other player farming to win
